Contrary to what most users think, it is up to the third party developers to ensure their apps & drivers work with each macOS update. These users have been having the issue for weeks now with the third party drive manufacturer's seemingly not providing any updates to their proprietary software. Recently many macOS 12.x Monterey users found themselves unable to read any of their NTFS volumes because the most recent macOS 12.x update broke the third party NTFS drivers. My question is, is there any way to get the permissions to open up so that I can write to the drive on the new mac without losing the existing data.įYI, you will find using a native built-in file system will be much more reliable especially after any macOS updates. An error occurred while applying security information to E:\VolumeIcon.icns Failed to enumerate objects in the comntainer. I also tried accessing the drive on a Windows machine, but there I can't seem to change the permissions either, it errors out With "Error Applying Security. When I try to open the permissions to everyone using the MBP 2015, by unlocking and giving read and write access then locking again, those permissions show up but will be gone if I unplug and re plug in the drive so it is clear they are not actually "sticking"/being done. Basically even though the user name is the same it is obviously considered a different user wrt the permissions on the drive. ![]() ![]() I do have NTFS for Mac installed on both laptops. On that laptop, Info shows that the mac user has read&write access and indeed I can read and write.īut when I plug it into the new MBP M1, it shows up as read only. I'm trying to continue to use a Seagate backup plus drive that I've used for years on my old MBP 2015.
